Baby Shower Etiquette
#13
I don't think you're responsible.

[opinion]
I also think that after the first child you probably shouldn't have any more, for a couple of reasons. For a first child, buying all that "stuff" in a few short months, is a big burden on a young couple. After the first though, you should have most of the "stuff" you need already. I can see a small exception being made if it's a baby of a different gender, but even still - you should be able to reuse almost all the "stuff" you got the first time. I mean do you really need a gender specific Boppy pillow cover? No. Also, by the second child, you probably realize you didn't really use most of the junk you registered for the first time.

My wife and I were invited to an acquaintance's second child shower. (it was a couples-inclusive shower.) We politely declined and sent a card. Of course it'd be different depending on how close you are with the person, but my (our) guideline is none after one.
