Griffin's web site says the BlueTrip receiver is not compatible with other Bluetooth devices, but it also has a Q&A which talks about the transmitter working with Bluetooth headphones.

In addition, the photo on Griffin's site for the transmitter shows one on the top of an iPod, but the iCraveit site shows one designed to go on the bottom of an iPod.
Confusing.

No. The BlueTrip receiver only functions with the included BlueTrip transmitter module for iPod.
Does the transmitter connect to the top or bottom of the iPod?
BlueTrip attaches to the top of the iPod.
