I don't think the deal is exactly the way Newton wrote it - I don't believe the high end model Includes lifetime (or maybe I misread her comment).
I just signed up for the low ball model (I'll upgrade the HDD later - or not). Funny thing about the Lifetime deal. Unless I'm getting shafted by a sales person who's either dumber or smarter than me, I got a better deal than I expected.
I have a Series 2 - dual tuner that I was going to replace with the Premiere. Also have a TiVoHD with lifetime. I figured I'd cancel the contract on the Series 2 and buy lifetime on the Premiere, at the discounted multi-Tivo price of $299 giving me both with lifetime. The salesman said to just cancel the Series 2 and upgrade the TiVoHD to the Premiere adding Lifetime at $199 - AND the TiVoHD will retain lifetime as well - according to the rep, one unit must have un-discounted service - not sure which one they are figuring has that on my deal.
Somehow, that seems like pulling yourself up by your bootstraps but the rep insisted that way I'd spend less and have lifetime on both units. (I didn't get the 20% discount on the Premiere that I would have got by upgrading the Series 2 but saved $200 over the regular priced lifetime service.)
Well, OK, works for me if it all passes muster. I’ll have 15 or 30 days to back out if things go haywire, so I'll see if the deal flies.
I'll probably skip the cable card and just record OTA stuff on the new one since I can move content between them anyway.
