She's no doubt dealing with 'survivor guilt'... active caretakers tend to beat themselves up more with the sort of "If I had only done...." kind of thought processes.

You'll find the time to tell the stories about positive interactions and negative interactions with your father. Write 'em down.. they will become useful explaining the relationships to family and friends.
