My (now old) Infiniti came with a treatment like Rain-X on the windshield. It was quite effective at causing water to bead up - almost did not need wipers. But it wore off.
I think Rain-X works reasonably well, at least until it wears off.

I don't think which cleaner you use matters so much. But I do think something like Rain-X can help the windshield stay cleaner. It starts to get dirty as soon as you finish cleaning it.
Also make sure to clean the inside of the windshield. Those on our cars tend to get a hazy film on them (which is a pain to get off).
