OWC: *New iMac models do not have universal manufacturer compatibility...really?

I put a modern Seagate 120GB PATA drive in an LC 580 running Mac OS 8.1. No problems. Sure, I had to partition into an HFS boot and HFS+ data to best use the ample storage of the drive, but smooth sailing. I think older versions of the OS were more finicky when it came to third party drives and the Apple format software. I think there was even an issue with making third party optical drives bootable.

Again, I believe the newer versions of the classic Mac OS smoothed out these issues.
