i was a junior in high school when Kent State happened. i remember it as the day the movement realized that our country was willing to kill us.
about six years ago i was booked at a music festival taking place on the Kent State campus. it was my first time there. much to my surprise, tears began streaming down my face as i drove on to the campus. i had to pull the car over. my son, 10 at the time, asked mommy why she was so upset. i could barely speak. later i did try to explain to him what happen on May 4. i wept like a child again a few days later when we visited the on-campus memorial.
talking 'bout my generation. some wounds went deep.
