High pressures just require a little beefier engineering. One process plant I ran operated at 1,800 psi and it was built about 1936. IIRC, the plant that Golfer ran was about 3,000 psi. CNC water jet cutting runs 40,000 psi and up.

The high pressure is one reason that their current class of Blow Out Preventer only works 45% of the time. It worries me that so much of the equipment used this region is pretty similar. They need a little more experience and better design.
