Well, if it's a business investment in LivingSocial rather than merely a giveaway, then it makes a little more sense. Hence my greater comfort level in the deal, knowing that Amazon is a major investor. They have a financial interest in the company not coming off this promo looking really bad...even if it costs $10.4 million. A gaff like that could kill a venture like LivingSocial, which like Groupon, needs a loyal user base to thrive.
