I don't know if it's truly impossible, or whether the will is absent, but a secure border isn't going to happen. And on the other hand, I'd almost be in favor of a pie in the sky type "open the border" thing. "One world", and all that. Course that's not going to happen either. I do think that even the worst of us deserves a modicum of respect, so certainly those here basically out of necessity should be treated at least respectfully. Course, that's not likely either, so I guess I don't really have any new ideas. kj.
Very insightful and I share your obvious despair. Just acknowledging that there is no easy jingoistic solution is a start. How we achieve a just and humanitarian solution will not be easy but I want to believe it is possible with a modicum of good will by all concerned. Like you, I don't really have any new ideas either.
