Monies paid into social security have NEVER been "poured into the general fund." The rules for financing and investing the Social Security Trust Fund have remained the same since 1939.

You can check the balance of the trust fund and the daily deposits if you want, that's all public info. You can see for yourself that the fund is fully invested in US govt-backed securities.

If you are falling for fear mongering on this and are worried, and won't do the research or read anything on government websites to calm yourself down, then on Monday morning, pick up the phone and call your Congressman's office and ask them what happens each day to FICA deposits. Or you can go to snopes.com and look under the "social security" category and you'll see how the myth you are repeating got started, and what the facts are.
