This actually seems like a genius idea, until you try it (which I did). The suction cup won't work on the tape (maybe if you have 3"+ wide tape, so each piece is wider than the suction cup, it would).

Perhaps only taping the half that has the crack would work. Then lift from the other side. Once you get a corner up, using the heat gun and spludger(s) (or old credit cards) to keep the glass lifted as you go around.

But, as I said earlier, once the glass is cracked, it becomes much more prone to cracking more. The tape at least keeps all the pieces somewhat together, but getting all those little pieces off of the frame and adhesive sticking it to the frame is a PITA.
