I know that Grumpy noted wordpress.org and thanked him for the recommendation as I did you.
Via wordpress.org I jumped there and found wordpress.com which is much more of the type of solution I am interested in for what I have in mind. Again, thanks for the suggestions. Time to do my homework so I can get started in the near future. I'm very much looking forward to creating the blog and typing away for the my own enjoyment and, just as importantly, the enjoyment of everyone who reads it.
