The ironic thing about box sets is that they are aimed at a very specific group, the hardcore fan, who is more likely than not to have some of this music already. The casual fan wants a "greatest hits" of the "best" album of the band, and I doubt would shell out $300+ for the "deep" tracks (let alone $660).
Thanks for reminding me about Joshua Tree - am listening to that now.
I also like the Smiths, but for £249 (almost $400 US), I cannot justify it. Heck, the U2 and Smiths albums combined would be over $1k, and I would rather put that money toward a trip with my wife.
