That's the mask on the magnifying glass image. It's been that way since the forum began. It's not a problem with the browser.

But the combination of rounded-rectangles and square rectangles is entirely Apple's fault. There's no visible mask in Safari 5 (the magnifying glass sits in a matching white area. . There isn't even a magnifying glass in a tab.

I'm with Bill. What browser/version/platform is that?
it shows up in Safari's URL bar, but only while the page is loading, after that it's all white and you cannot see the white vertical bars
