Ok. I am in fact, using the software mentioned in your first link.

But what's the deal with the cables? It's not like I'm missing the cable. Also the built-in cable plugged right into the hard drive I ordered. It just didn't work.
The cables have temp sensors on the end and replace the cable that plugs into the HD. Just because the cable fit on the end of your new HD doesn't mean there is anything on the other end inside the hard drive actually doing anything.
