There's no (good) reason why you shouldn't be able to change the listing type w/diff pricing, just like when revising a y are listing to add subtitle for instance, it shows you what your new listing fee will be. The final value fee rates they keep well-obscured anyway. It's just that they are a badly run company w/ignorant obstinate people making the rules, who seem to never learn any better.
And I think you can't do it because they have different pricing based upon which type of sale it will be - auction style, buy it now, or best offer. They all have different rates and different rules.
I can't get over the amount of doo-dads you can add to a listing now, all while putting more money into eBay's pocket.
