It increases torque and decreases effort
you do have to be careful with nuts and bolts not to break them

aside from heat and penetrating oils sometimes lever pressure and shock from a hammer blow will break a nut free without breaking the bolt.





I have old iron DWV pipes in my house and pipe extensions come in real handy.
