What's the best way to report the incident to the credit bureau's?

well, you don't... if you like (and you'll need to give this serious consideration) you can have a 'stop' placed on the credit so that no new accounts can be opened without a direct phone call from them to you.

This is a royal pain in the ass, so be sure that's what you want to do before you do it.

I had this done when my credit ID was stolen in the 90s long before Identity theft became a commonly used term. There might be some other options now, but you can't contact them and say, "look, our computer was stolen so be extra careful of our credit for a while, ok?"

Call them directly - I can't even remember the names of them anymore, but if you call a credit card company, they'll have the numbers handy and might have some more advice for you.
