Delete key used to go 'back' in Safari; why'd they remove that shortcut?

still works fine here (Safari 5.1.2) and as long as the cursor is in a text box, I can use the delete key properly, i.e. I can delete text. Only when the cursor is NOT in a text box (i.e. I click outside the box) then the Delete key takes me back.
