wireless hard drive?
#12
Lazy,

I'm going to suggest a different approach... What kind of Blu-Ray and TV does he have and do either have network/streaming/DLNA capabilities?

If one or both have these features, my first move would to get one onto the Internet and go for streaming. If that proves feasible, then delve into streaming from a locla source like a drive or computer. If neither device has streaming, go for a a Roku or an AppleTV. A Roku is a near no-brainer, if he buys anything from Amazon.com and has a prime membership.

Give your FIL a chance to check out streaming video. While I prefer the interface of the AppleTV, a Roku has more options when it comes to channels with freebie content. If the experiment proves successful, if you go AppleTV, leave your machine running 24/7 and use iTunes Home Sharing to send content to the TV. If a Roku, use Plex for the same purpose.
