Then why doesn't it work with every line in device I've tried? I have to use an iMic. For example, I've got a plantronics headset with two jacks - line out and line in - and the line in doesn't work (it's for the mic.)

That said, the headset port does use the mic on my other headphones which uses one jack for headphones and mic.
