Buck, the point I'm trying to make is simple - Apple likes to compare itself to cars. The 'Pro' designation was supposed to be a BMW-class computer. One aspect of BmWs is not that the engine makes the car go faster, it's all the 'little' things like easy ports that worked well for adding an iPod in a 2001 model (one that predates the iPod revolution).
This is not a BMW. It's a very expensive Honda with a supercool windshield. Still nice (I own two Hondas myself) but they are not in the same league as my uncle's BMW.
In the past, Apple has added back missing pieces. A good example was removing the FW800 port going to intel Macs, then adding them back in the second generation, I doubt FW is coming back. But a third TB port would fix that.
I suspect things like the battery indicator could get added back, I personally miss that capability. I use my MBPR a lot unplugged.
