I've heard that certain pharmaceutical bulk packs have a gps tracking device to help track the package from manufacturer to distributer to pharmacy. The tracker would not be dispensed to a consumer, but could track the container if it were stolen/taken from the pharmacy.
Some banks are now using gps devices in money packs or bags that are used if robbed. There's been a couple of news stories covering this in the last few weeks.
