No CS upgrade has ever cost $300, unless you are talking about individual application updates.
To go from any CS 5.5 to CS 6 (Design & Web premium) is $375. $750 if you are at 5.
For me, to go from CS 3 Design Standard was impossible. But $29 to everything (at least for the first year) was totally doable.
