kill-o-watt?

I have a fairly new stand up freezer that has been moved from the garage into a utility room inside the house. I've noticed it hums all the time. I'm not sure if that means the compressor is running, a fan, or just what. It never stops though. The freezer is holding temperature but I'm worried it might be drawing a lot of power. Should I throw a kill-o-watt device onto it? Are there different models I should consider? Thanks.
