Yes, you are right about the output of the subway car air conditioning and the people. The ventilation of the particular stations is critical.
I was just talking to someone who walked up and down 11th Ave in Manhattan today for business appt's at the car dealerships. We agreed that 11Ave is a fine wide stretch of black asphalt and the temp was horrendous. he said the hot dog vendors weren't using any gas to boil the dogs today.
