jdc is on the right track... find a local furniture maker that uses good materials and techniques, and yes, they'll probably be knock offs of well known designs. You'll get good stuff, and know what you're getting at a significant saving from the brand name. Typically if they do leather, you'll be given a choice of leather grades and tanneries to choose from, same w/ padding and construction. We have several pieces from local manufacturers, and if/when we ever do it again, that will be the only way we'd do it..., other than maybe buying some high end brand name stuff at a local estate auction if the price was right.
