VPN deal
#2
Thanks! Been meaning to sign up for a VPN service to see if it'll solve my Time Warner / Backblaze throttling issue, but wasn't sure if I wanted all my traffic to go through the VPN and OS X doesn't make it easy to selectively route traffic and didn't feel like buying and configuring a new router to do this. My issue was that a lot of VPN's sounded like they'd be significantly slower than your direct connection, but some reviews said this service is fast.

Interestingly, when connected to the VPN, I get 21.5Mbps down and 7Mbps up. I pay for 20/2. Checked another computer not connected and got 21.5/2, so it's really weird that my upload is faster on the VPN?

Ran the Backblaze back-up app and those speeds still dropped (to 3.5/2) but the huge difference is that the rest of the internet seemed usable. Previously, on a direct connection, whenever the Backblaze app was running TW would throttle my internet connection so severely that it made it unusable. Often, web pages would load incompletely (i.e. just the text, no formatting, and that's after waiting forever), or they would time out. We'll see how it does in the long term.
