Mine is an older model Oral-B with NiCad batteries and it recommend unplugging the charger every six months and letting run down dead, then plugging it back in.
Except for those two times, I keep the charger plugged in and RTB the toothbrush after every use.
With NiMH batteries, I'd unplug it until I detected the slightest slowdown, charge it over night, then unplug it again.
Actually, I should probably do that with the NiCads, and still run it down twice a year.
