iPhone 4: Questions about selling it
#12
As far as the pop up messages, I think Apple changed or mucked with the pin configuration of the charger/dock connecters somewhere between the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4. My 3G or was it the 3GS worked with my Alpine radio but I needed a special adaptor (scosche passport) to get my 4 to work.

If she has some original hardware that has been around since the 3GS - it may be incompatible hardware (not supporting charging but still works/plays) and not a damaged phone issue.

Various 3rd party charges/devices had a similar issue when the 3GS was released and the slightest difference in voltage or PIN changes on iP4 can cause older 3rd party items to no longer be compatible... like the BOSE sound dock for example...version I worked fine with 2G and 3G but when 3GS came out it would give an error message that said the accessory is not made to work with this device and suggested the iPhone be placed into Airplane mode... BOSE Sound dock II resolved this but the point is it took a hardware change on that 3rd party device...
