I used to make two or three trips a week near Deadwood on I-90 and occasionally into town. South Dakota doesn't have the greatest snow removal but in the Black Hills they do use heavy duty equipment (front end loaders and road patrols working together can clear a lot of deep snow quickly). This time of year all the snow will be gone in a few days. Even in the middle of winter big snows seldom stay long on the roads because they get some nice warm days.
Once in January I left Minneapolis where it was -14. I got to Rapid City and it was in the mid 60s. I got back to Minneapolis and it was -14 again. All in less than 24 hours. The most extreme temperature change in the world was in Spearfish, SD which is close to Deadwood.
