Perhaps I should clarify why I feel so strongly about tires, I turn 70 next year, and when I was in my early twenties I bought some retreads (very commonly available in the 60's of my youth) for my mustang as I thought I could not afford new tires. Several months later on a trip to Reno on a curved mountain road (highway 50 in those days) doing 70 mph I experienced a blowout on the right rear tire and somehow managed after spinning three complete revolutions came to a safe stop with no damage to me or my passenger. I might also add that during the three revolutions where I had absolutely no control I narrowly missed hitting a family stopped on the side of the road as I went by them facing backwards. To this day I can still remember the terror I felt and saw on the faces of my passenger and the family on the side of the road. It is an image I can still see in my mind as clearly as the day it happened and I will never forget it. So now perhaps you can understand my feeling on the subject of tires. Save money on computers and other areas of your life that don't have the ability to take your loved ones from you. I worked in the automotive field for over twenty years and there are many ways to get killed on the highway, some of them easily avoided like cheap tires.
