this came up recently when I put an ad on CL and immediately got some dude virtually screaming that he needed to get in touch with me, NOW! I put the messages (like 9 of them) in spam, so he then used another address and then wrote his tale of woe of how I did not get in touch with him at the other address and sounded as if he was going to off himself because of it.
but this is not really about him, per se. I know people (some are friends) who will send an email and then want me to respond NOW and if I don't (and I usually do not), they will call me the next day, saying how they are sad that they can't get in touch with me. two of these people must have a minimum phone conversation of 30m, consisting mostly of them talking. I can not stand talking on the phone for that long, so I call them infrequently. and, yet, they are good friends, and good people. but wth is up with the neediness?
