Nathan just got shot down by news reporters about saying the weather reports said Atlanta was going to get a "dusting of snow". LOL (Not one weather report I saw on 4 local channels, said that._ The report then showed the Sunday, Monday and Tues a.m. weather bulletins and totally shot him down.
Both CNN and The Weather Channel have been reporting the same thing today. They show the official NWS forecast was consistent in calling for up to 2" of snow for all of metro Atlanta. The only real variability was how much more would fall to the south.
It is obvious the government and school officials are the ones who screwed up, not the NWS. Some speculate the mayor and governor missed the 2" for Atlanta part of the forecast and fixated on the "more to the south" part. I believe the official total for Atlanta was 2.6" so the NWS was a little low but .6" less still would have created exactly the same mess.
I think the biggest mistake is NO kids should have been at school Tuesday.
Edit: the measurement at the airport was 2.3" not 2.6".
