The main reason to use spray in foam is that it provides a complete thermal break.
Think of this example.... on a warm day you pour ice cold tea into a plastic cup and a Styrofoam cup and leave them to sit for a few minutes. What happens? The outside of the plastic cup quickly begins to sweat and soon you have a nice puddle on your table top. The Foam cup on the other hand just sits there nicely keeping your tea cold.
On a cold day you pour hot tea into the cups and what happens? The tea in the plastic cup quickly becomes cold while the tea in the Styrofoam cup stays hot for a long time.
I wish the outside walls of my stucco house (built in 1954) had foam insulation.
Every time the sun is shinning and it's above 70... which is a lot of the time around here... The interior walls on the South facing side of the house get hot to the touch very quickly!
