I recently bought a Sony Class 10 card in micro format; it does not seem to playback at a consistent pace on my DSLR (but does seem to record the video fine).

What would you recommend for a decently priced fast card, and would a normal size format make a difference?

Not all class 10 cards are equal. What is the model # on the card and what camera are you using?
the camera is a hacked GH1. the card is just a Sony Class 10 micro card, nothing special. card has 40mb/s

just shot some video and noticed the setting was not at its highest. switching to the highest setting and now the card chokes recording as well.
I would suspect a problem with the card. A Class 6 card should be fast enough for HD recording and playback. A Class 10 card should have speed to spare.

You mentioned a hacked GH1 - are you trying to record at a high bitrate? Is it choking on that perhaps?

I'd try a different card. Or at least, reformat the one you have in camera?
