refurb Kindle Fire HD 16G - today only

This is tempting. My son has a regular Kindle and I have a Nook Color that I generally do not like. I don't need an iPad or iPad Mini.

Can the Fire only read the Amazon format ebooks or can you load .epub and .pdf formats also? What about video formats? I have a lot of video content on our home server - can I stream to the Fire?

I guess know what I'll be researching during lunch.

edit: It looks like Plex is available for the Fire, so that answers part of my question.
