Robert, one of the things specifically mentioned in the Sony review was the poor user interface. For that reason alone, I'd be unlikely to replace the Oppo with it. As antiquated as the Oppo interface is (there's actually very little of it: you just put the disc it and off you go) I'd rather keep it and avoid wading through a bunch of Sony features I'll never use.
As far as the Oppo "breaking," we don't know that. As has been suggested, a dirty lens is as likely as a failed component.
