To paraphrase this thread, "My dvd player is broken", "I won't test the replacement Blu-ray player I already own because I might not like it", "Besides, the Oppo might not be truly broken, maybe just needs the lens cleaned", "Well, I'm sending it in for repair even though I didn't try cleaning the lens and no, I still won't try the Blu-ray player I already own."

I would have:
a. Attempted cleaning the lens.
b. Given the Sony Blu-ray a test run
c. If I didn't like the results of a and b, considered repairing the Oppo.

Nevertheless, fun thread.
