I think 4k is a coming reality but I don't think most people will care or need it. It makes difference on very large screen.
I agree, on both counts.
While at Video Only, a local chain, I saw a an 80" Sharp TV with the typical factory demo loop. Standing four feet away, the detail was unbelievable. The picture was vibrant and sharp, truly impressive. Some of that was the tuned-for-store, but I give credit to Sharp's near 4K resolution mojo.
Not true 4K, not even Ultra-HD for all I know, but the detail was absolutely stunning. The thing is you needed that big screen to appreciate it. 80" screens in homes won't be rare, but they won't be common either.
So 4K is yet to be on my horizon.

When you upgrade it's time for me to upgrade.
