It's supposed to me a nice camera, dunno about the 18-55, but it would be a start and something to work with at least most of the time.
I've considered it a few times when it has been offered body-only at an even better price point.
I am seeing used D300 for less than $500 and D7000 (both weather sealed) are dropping to below the $700 neighborhood. Watch your local internet classifieds. Yeah, everyone selling cameras here seem to think their used pampered babies with 15,000+ clicks are worth 10% more than a nikon factory refurb.
I keep looking though.
