To be safe, you might just want to get then to male you a pair of single vision distance lenses and then order an inexpensive pair of readers.

I think you would have no trouble wearing bi-focals, but if you don't want to try anything new, I would understand.

The line in the bifocals becomes invisible in just a day or two. I had to wear bi-focals when I was in second grade, and mine were the split right across the middle kind. After a day or two, I could not see the line, even if I tried.
