The night after my daughter was born. What should have been the most wonderful day of my life became the most terrifying. She was emergently rushed to the nearby Children's Hospital's Neonatal ICU a few hours after being born with unexpected birth defects.
My wife was recovering from her c-section, unable to hold her baby girl. I was trying to be both places at once and hold it together while I was falling apart on the inside. We didn't know what was wrong or if she would survive. 13 years and 10 days later, I still remember the nightmare I had that night.
