The iPhone is not marketed for rough and tumble users. Is it even water or dust resistant? There's a whole other class of devices that Apple doesn't really play in like that Sapphire equipped Kyocera or the Samsung Active. If the OP's S3/S4 wasn't up to the demands, neither will any currently shipping iPhone. The amount of iPhone repairs mentioned on this forum alone means accidental damage is pretty common. Didn't you just suggest AppleCare+ in case of accidental damage?
This is kind of silly? The answer to every tech question can't be "pick an Apple product". Apple consciously avoids hitting every niche and generally tries to aim for the good enough, hopefully well balanced device that sits in the higher margin range. By that token, many potential users will in fact not have an Apple product to choose from, unless they are willing to make sacrifices.
There's no mention of a busted screen in the original post, so I'm not sure if a new sapphire display iPhone would solve the durability concerns.
