Different class of devices. The iPad has always been cheaper than the flagship iPhone. The bump to the mobile data model is usually $129, not $50. I wouldn't buy a mobile data iPad either, too expensive and I already own a phone capable of sharing my Internet connection. I find the iPhone hideously expensive and won't be buying a new model, but for some reason davester thought a big phone would be cheaper than a small one given the same specs. I don't know how that would be possible unless you cut down the specs.
