An Android-phone friend uses an iPod Classic, probably because he likes iTunes on his PC. And using that click-wheel interface is still an excellent way to navigate music.
I agree. Better bang for the buck with a smart phone versus the iPod touch. Put it in AirPlane mode and don't activate it if you solely want a media player mini tablet. That's what I do with my $60 Moto G. I do miss the click wheel sometimes, but since the touch never had one, it's no loss to switch away.
