Sorry, that wasn't meant to be a slight. My surprise stems from the fact that any supermarket deli section around here has probably far more non-leaf salads than leaf salads (pasta, caprese, bean, beet, carrot, corn, pepper, greek, broccoli, cucumber, potato, macaroni, etc, etc.). Likewise, most restaurants have several types of non-leaf salads on offer. I don't think this is particularly unusual, so I'm wondering where you live that such things aren't common.
