After agonizing about it for a few weeks, I finally ordered a refurbed Mac mini (dual core 1.66MHz)! The last new Mac (which I guess I still can't say the mini is, since it is refurbed) I ordered was my iBook G3 600MHz in December of 2001. Since then, I picked up a used dual 867MHz PowerMac MDD that has been my main machine for about 4 years.
The MDD has started to get a little long in the tooth with spinning beachballs and such in simple iApps. I have 1.5GB of RAM and PLENTY of internal HD space that's available. I'm not sure what it's about, but it started with the first iteration of Tiger that was Intel naitive. Oh well, Steve got me to buy new hardware!
With my photoshop and other CS2 apps usage waining, I decided the mini was for me, given I want to pick up a MacBook Pro in another year or so (and by then the price on Merom chips will be down, and I'll replace the Core Duo with a Core 2 Duo just after the warantee wears out).
I'll slowly work on upping the RAM (though I know chas_m thinks it'll void my warantee) and moving everything over from the MDD to then sell it. The 250GB HD I ordered from Outpost yesterday will fit into my ministack v2 I already have and power this mini on a daily basis!
So, I'm excited for the UPS guy to show up, hopefully it isn't too long!
