I have the same and have never hesitated in updating firmware. There has never been a penalty for me in doing this on any Mac.
It is not a matter of "it's working fine as is" for me. It is one of those "I may wish I had later if my equipment changes or if I want to sell/give it to someone who would benefit by the firmware upgrade. I don't want to rely on memory that it is available but not installed".
App software updates are a different story, especially iTunes.
